IGNITE election nominations open

Nominations for IGNITE elections opened on Tuesday, with 14 leadership positions open to be filled for the 2018-2019 term starting this September.

Students are able to sign up to run via the elections page until Feb. 9 at 4 p.m., with campaigns launching on Feb. 20 at Humber College locations and at the University of Guelph-Humber.

Positions open to Guelph-Humber students include the presidency, vice president from GH, and two board director positions.

The current president, Maja Jocson, is from the university, along with John Kokkoros as Guelph-Humber’s vice president.

IGNITE, however, is not the only platform that Guelph-Humber students can run for.

There are four spots dedicated to GH on the 162-member University of Guelph Senate, the largest of its kind in Ontario.

However, complaints have arisen over the small size of the Guelph-Humber representation at the University of Guelph, the technical administrator of Guelph-Humber.

The Humber Students Federation and its Guelph-Humber counterpart united under IGNITE in the fall of 2016.

However, the organization came under fire after spending $400,000 for the re-branding and became mired in controversy with student journalists being attacked.
