U.S. Democrats abandon support for Franken

At least 30 United States Democratic Party senators called on Al Franken to resign on Wednesday after he was hit with sexual harassment allegations.

The statements were released nearly simultaneously by the lawmakers after Franken was accused of groping seven women.

Local media reported that he apologized to those that came forward and apologized to the accusers, but denied a few of the allegations.

Franken denies a media report saying that he had attempted to forcibly kiss a former congressional aide in 2006.

Franken’s office said he would be making a public statement on Thursday following apparently inaccurate reporting from Minnesota Public Radio that said he planned to resign his seat.

A tweet from staff said the senator “is talking with his family at this time and plans to make an announcement in D.C. tomorrow”, saying that any news of a final decision “are inaccurate.”
