United States broadcaster NBC fired Today Show anchor Matt Lauer over sexual harassment allegations on Wednesday.
NBC News Chief Andrew Lack said in an email to internal staff that after receiving a “detailed complaint from a colleague about sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer”, the broadcaster decided to “terminate his employment.”
Despite this being the first complaint for his behaviour during his 20 years working at NBC News and co-hosting the morning flagship Today Show, Mr Lack wrote “we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.”
“Our highest priority is to create a workplace environment where everyone feels safe and protect”, reads the email.
US President Donald Trump responded soon after in a tweet that criticized the executives of NBC for “putting out so much Fake News” and called for a probe into Andy Lack’s past.
