The College Employer Council, under the public relations direction of David Scott, spun the story of going back to the bargaining table as though they were always there and the college union was not.
Lead negotiator for the Ontario Public Sector Employees Union, JP Hornick, has made clear at several rallies and solidarity events that her team has been open to “fair negotiations” at the table since the strike started on Oct 16.
A press release crafted by Mr Scott says that the Council requested the “provincially appointed mediator to bring the colleges and OPSEU Academic back to the table to resume bargaining” for this Thursday.
As the two sides head back to dealmaking this week, faculty hope it is a genuine effort for a fair deal.
Humber College professor Tyler Shipley said Wednesday that “it remains to be seen whether this is an effort in good faith or just a ploy to appear better to the media.”
Many college students, however, made clear at Queen’s Park on Wednesday that they want the strike to end.
